Library on the Go: School Year, 2018-2019

Image
How the program works:  I have a grant-funded collection of paperback easy readers and beginning chapter books. I take them to classrooms during the school year and various outreach venues during the summer. Kids can "check out" 1-2 books without a library card, due dates, or fines. The books are cataloged under professional and as serials. The general categories are graphic novels (Squish, Bad Guys, Dragonbreath, Lunch Lady), Scholastic Branches, I Can Read easy readers, National Geographic Easy Readers, and various other series. When I check them out, I use our portable scanner and mini ipad and check them out on an outreach card so we get circs. If they don't come back after about 6-8 months, I delete them. So far about 80% have returned. Bookmark and schedule, in English and Spanish List of books Fall 2018 12-21-18 Tibbets 1st grade (2 classes) Last Library on the Go of the year! I hope to get more funding through grants to replenish my supplies next year. 12-13-18 OP...

The ice cream sea Program Goals  Holiday-neutral program  Bring library users in during December  Fun!  Attendance: 200 This was our second year! I looked at many, many resources online. Pinterest boards for ideas, other libraries who had done the program, and asked staff for ideas as well. These are some of the best resources I found: https://www.pinterest.com/mslola/life-size-candy-land/?lp=true http://www.programminglibrarian.org/programs/life-sized-candy-land https://sunflowerstorytime.com/2015/03/23/life-size-candyland/ http://lalalalibrary.blogspot.com/2015/03/life-sized-candyland.html Staff: 1 greeter, 2 in charge of crafts, 1 runner, 1 caller for teams. As people came into the library they signed up their family and/or friends as a "team" with Terri. She also counted them and handed out the game instructions. Then they went into our community room (on the right) to do activities and play games while they waited for their turn. I called teams pretty much non-s...
